The Weeks Review
"Hi all,
Last week saw the first game of Tennis as well as the completion of the Table Tennis and Badminton Seasons. Our Tennis team had a solid 6-3 win over Massey with our top 3 singles players winning 6-0. Congratulations also needs to go to Zephyr Scayan in year 9 who played her first ever game of singles after only 2 practices and only lost 6-3 - A great effort for a student who has only been playing one week!Table Tennis finished their season on Friday 30th September. This has been the first time in at least 4 years that we have fielded a team in table tennis and from all feedback it was a success and a sport that we will be offering next year. Thank you to Mr Kim for making it happen.
Badminton continues it's run of titles as our top term 3 team also won their game to add to the tally of 3 grade titles gained last term. The win was as close as it could have been with both teams tied at 3 games each but AGGS winning in a count back of points 111 to 110! Well done to the team and well done to the members of our Thursday teams who also performed well throughout their season.
The last sport to play last week was our Waterpolo team who are playing in the Boys C Grade in a composite team with Parnell College. The team played Strathallan last Sunday and after conceding 2 goals with the Parnell Goalie in goal, subbed in the AGGS Goalie to keep Strathallan scoreless for the rest of the game. At the same time our team went on a scoring frenzy netting 8 unanswered goals (one from a Parnell player and 7 from AGGS players). It all goes to show that waterpolo at AGGS is on the up - it may have taken 3 years for our seniors to win a game but it only took 3 games for our juniors to follow suit.
Looking forward to the school holidays and the only event on the calendar is the Netball Nationals in Taradale from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th October. Best wishes for the team - it would be superb to go one better than last year and come back with the title!
Finally a reminder that Sports Prizegiving is being held on Tuesday 1st November between 2pm and 3:20pm in the Dorothy Winstone Centre, AGGS Gate 2. Please book this date in your calendar. This year's guest speaker is double Olympic Gold Medallist Danyon Loader."
Yours in Sport
